#149 | Student demonstration ends; clashes around the Polytechnic right now.

  • 17.55 GMT+2 The administration building of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki has just been occupied by students in protest against the violation of the academic asylum for a third consecutive day.
  • From Saturday until Monday, at least 823 people have been detained across the country; of these, 159 have officially been arrested and charged. These are only the confirmed numbers; actual numbers might be higher.

The student demonstration in Athens ended a few hours ago. Police presence was once again heavy; at least 19 people were arrested today and 35 were detained in a protest that hardly had any clashes at all. A few hundred people ended up the Polytechnic, were up to half an hour ago there were clashes with the cops. We left Exarcheia square twenty minutes ago and there were many people there, too.

We know that one high school student is seriously injured by the cops, mass media confirm this, but no further details so far.

Will keep updating the post as more info is coming in.

Take it to the streets internationally in support of those on the streets across Greece and against the severe and brutal repression this movement is experiencing. Everyone to the streets! To the embassies and consulates and travel centres!

The siege of the Polytechnic seems to have ended? There are reports of some 600 people getting out. Is this true?

Also, the University of Athens sent a letter to the police today, condemning them because they didn’t prevent the beating of the rector and claryfing that the pedestrian streets and the courtyard outside the University building are not covered by the asylum. They, thus, asked the police to surround the building to prevent another occupation. That’s what has happened now in Propylaia.

Prisoners should be rising up against the guards, and people outside the prisons should be freeing them. Imagine tens of thousands of new fighters, not afraid to do what it takes to win!

To Anon and As, I’d like to agree… but what can we do about it, personally? And how? I mean if you’re lucky enough to be in Greece right now and are into some sort of “affinity group” then get to work on it NOW, or else I’m not sure the prisoners will be freed just like that, just by saying that they should… If I’d be there, I’d probably get a kalashnikov from some local mafia, steal a big truck and ram into a few of these prisons with it and shoot all the guards. That’s one efficient way to free prisoners from the outside, but if you have a better solution, put it to the test, then, but please, let’s do something that works!

I am not in Greece, as much as I wish I were. I’m merely giving my thoughts on what actions one could take. If they happen to see my idea and like it, good. if not, nothing lost.

Easy to say that you’d get a kalashnikov if you were there… things are not that easy, stop being so romantic if you really want to help. The repression greek comrades are facing is huge and unknown of until now, they must stand sure, be strong and show solidarity. Diversity in action is one thing that would help, but strengh in the streets is surely necessary. Don’t let the MGD grind you down, they still fear you and you should keep it like that !

On a more practical level, what happened to the post with the picture of the asfalites ? Was occupied london hacked ?

Lots of solidarity with all of you who are taking it to the streets, spreading the word, translating infos, and just widely acting to change this rotten world. We are everywhere !
