At around 3am on Saturday night, cops of the “Delta force” (motorcycle cops) entered the campus of the Athens Polytechnic in the suburb of Zografou, Athens. Police do not enter university spaces unless invited by the university authorities; this usually requires evidence of a serious crime being committed on campus. Yet last night, the rector of the Athens Polytechnic, Kostantinos Moutzouris, asked the police to intervene as “he was informed” that large-scale property destruction was taking place on campus.
What was happening on campus at the time when the cops stormed? At the two small student parties that were taking place that night, eyewitnesses saw no destruction: the guards, who had been ordered to give access to the police, apparently saw nothing more than a few broken doors. The police’s response was more than 30 detentions.
In the city of Larissa, anti-fascists met at the point of gathering of a fascist demonstration that had been called against the soon-to-be-introduced citizenship bill. When the first 15 or so fascists turned up, they were beaten and chased away by the anti-fascists, according to this IMC report. At the time of writing (13.30 GMT+2) the anti-fascists have entered the city’s Medical School, surrounded by riot police and undercovers. The police are pressuring the university rector to allow for a lifting of the academic asylum there, too – but he has so far refused to allow for this.
This is breaking news, updates as they come.

About the last night’s situation, i believe that it has to be noted also that when the cops raided the area and started beating and arresting people without reason, many students locked themselves inside a permanently occupied space in the university to protect themselves and started broadcasting through the free pirate radio-station of Athens (98fm), informing everybody about what was happening. People came in solidarity at 4 am, and a short assembly decided that a main assembly will take place today in the afternoon.
In Larissa, the situation is still crucial. photo: https://athens.indymedia.org/front.php3?lang=el&article_id=1134416#1134509
