#315 | Fresh General Strike called for June 29th

The two main trade unions in Greece (GSEE and ADEDY) have announced a general strike for June 29th. The strike will come six days late, as it is so far confirmed that the government will bring the new law for public insurance and labour issues to parliament on June 23d (!) The new law more than doubles the number of employee firings a company is allowed per month, while cutting to less than half the minimum legal compensation, which will now be paid in installments.

A general strike demonstration will take place in Athens on the day; reports will appear here.

    Ladies and gentlemen
we have here in europe (Germany, France, Denmark are the countries I was living in recently) no information about what is happening in Greece – we have to seek what we can with difficulty.
You see – you are not important !
Please – what should I say – keep up the good work of protest against those who control us through the supply of money. You are right – we should not pay for the artificial debts of the banks. The whole of europe will agree with you at some point of time, I suspect that working people like myself do so already.

Not much news about Greece on the BBC. And when unrest spreads to France and Germany there won’t be much on the BBC about events in France/Germany. The impoverishment of sections of the working class to benefit Capitalism will continue in Europe for a decade at least or until resistance becomes general /transnational. The current generation of trade union officials and political opportunists on the nominal Left are in no position to effect either outcome in the longer run. The financial crash has been acknowledged by all to be solely a product of the dead hand Capitalism.
