Is this how it all begins? Greek PM announces referendum on latest bank enslavement agreement

A few minutes ago, the Greek PM G. Papandreou announced a referendum for the approval of last week’s EU summit agreement, with the 50% debt ‘haircut’ — effectively a credit event. It is expected that the referendum will be held in January, though the exact question that will be posed is yet unclear.

IMF riots in Athens – a brief presentation of the work of Yiannis Biliris

What makes photography a strange invention is that its primary raw materials are light and time. – John Berger It is a peculiar exercise to add a foreword to any photographic work but in the case of Athenian photographer Yiannis Biliris, the exercise is a mostly unnecessary one, too: his photographs are vivid enough to [...]

Popular revolts and dentist appointments (or, what to do in the case of Stalinist betrayal?)

A collective text on the events of October 20th in Athens.   Popular revolts and dentist appointments (or, what to do in the case of Stalinist betrayal?) In the past few days we have struggled to put together thoughts on what unfolded before our eyes in Syntagma on October 20th – let alone to put [...]

October 28th is Greece’s national “beat up your local politician” day

In what was supposed to be a day of nationalist propaganda, with military parades across the Greek territory (a remnant of military dictatorships past) to celebrate the “national day”, things have taken quite a different turn. A few minutes ago the Greek president of democracy (Karolos Papoulias) was forced to leave his post watching the fascist-inspired military parade commemorating the Greek-Italian war of 1940. Papoulias stood at the scene stunned, being booed by people, many of which occupied the ground in front of the officials’ stand, and were blocked off by [...]

The summit of wolves has cheerfully declared: a new haircut for every sheep in the herd!

The news pours in: smiling, shinny suits have met. There had been weeks and months of delays, deliberation after deliberation, but more decisions have now been reached. The markets are already “celebrating”, and this can only send a chilling wave down your spine, a nearly-primal, instinctual response: this can’t be good. There exist many ways in which [...]

How to reconnect a disconnected electricity connection

From the blog of the anarchist collective Sinialo The video is in Greek, but the steps are very simple: all you need to do is unscrew the electricity supply, making sure you screw it back in once you are done, to avoid obvious evidence you have tampered with it. You need to find a fuse [...]
