Attoreny general decided to break the strike of the municipality workers-strikers prepare for the police attack

Attorney general of Athens Eleni Raikou issued a few hours ago a decision against the strike of municipal workers and ordered for the landfill of Athens (in Filis) to open. Eleni Raikou in collaboration with the government ministers of interior affairs Kastanidis and Health Loverdos suggested that the strike puts  public health into risk since the workers refuse to collect rubbish while they have occupied the landfill and the garages of the various municipalities, where the vehicles for the collection of rubbish are parked.  The attorney ordered the landfill to be opened by the police  and decided to search for the people guilty of putting public health into risk, workers who will refuse to collect rubbish and open the landfill will be arrested and prosecuted on the spot. Buses of riot police were seen near the landfill, the workers occupying the landfill have set fire to their barricades and announced that are waiting for the police, while more workers from the occupied municipalities of Athens are gradually moving towards the landfill. The strikers asked as many people as possible to go to support them.   Yesterday the government threaten that they will contract private companies to collect the rubbish, implying that municipal workers who are on strike will be fired.

Riot police attacked the landfill and managed to open it. The workers say that this is without meaning, because no vehicles will move (the garages of the trucks are also occupied) and no workers will break the strike. Private companies are hired to do the job and break the strike, but face fierce resistance. In many cases strikers have spotted the private vehicles and stopped them, in others cases local residents stopped the vehicles in solidarity to the strikers. ADEDY (public sector ombrella union) has coveres the strikers. The place where electricity bills are typed is occupied also (as the government has decided to tax the citizens through the electricity bills, but the workers’ unions have rejected an idea of obeying an order of cutting electricity of people that don’t pay). Many ministries are occupied also by their workers, in order to make more difficult the function of the ministries. Doctors’ unions have decided to occupy (starting from Tuesday) the cashiers of all the hospitals, in order to stop the collecting of money, an to occupy the administration rooms. All occupations are with indefinite end.

From Monday many more strikes are programmed, and Wednesday and Thursday is the 48 hours general strike.

A LARGE WEEK IS ABOUT TO START…

about the private vehicles that try to break the strike, this is more a symbolical move by the state, as the private companies don’t have enough vehicles nor stuff to do anything significant.
